Yarra Valley

Song: George Michael – Careless Whisper

Drink: Large glass of Chardonnay, chased by FP Bloody Shiraz over ice.

Driving through the iddilic roads of The Yarra Valley, Kool FM still going strong, there was an obvious abundance of cellar doors and wine tours. But wine was not our reason for being here. We were here to see the mighty Four Pillars.

Not sure where to start with these guys and girls. All my (very high) expectations were smashed – I honestly didn’t want to leave.

After cruising through the stunning Yarra Valley we rocked up.  Walking in to their beautiful open Distillery – they were expecting us. The Riff Lord and The Board Lord (Elton and Ebony) greeted us and told us about how they had named all the staff different Lords – in honour of me. Incredible.

The view from the visitors centre!

They took us into the Distillery where we sampled pretty much everything they had to offer, all in front of Jude, Wilma and Eileen – (even a taste of their Rare Dry fresh off Jude, at a mighty ABV.)

The tasting also included their Christmas Gin, a sniff and taste of the barrel aged and left with a little bottle of their Improved Hanky Panky – their navy strength gin, rested in Maidenii Nocturne Vermouth barrels, then a Chardonnay barrel. Then this “double barrelled” Gin was batched with the Maidenii Sweet Vermouth, Fernet-Branca and absinthe. Wow. That’s all I can say. Wow.

We said our goodbyes, headed to the airport and flew to Tasmania…
